Adult ADHD Therapy in New York

If you’ve spent your life feeling like something is wrong with you, like your personality is a list of problems to fix, you’re not alone. ADHD is more than distractibility or forgetfulness. It impacts emotions, relationships, identity, and self-worth.

Many of my clients don’t even realize their struggles are related to ADHD until later in life. They just know they’ve felt “too much” or “not enough” for years.

ADHD clients come to me for:

• Emotion regulation

• Impulse control

• Navigating work or school

• Relationships

• Reframing negative self-beliefs

• Developing coping tools

• External supports like accommodations, medication & collaborative care

• Addressing the trauma of a lifetime of feeling “different”

My ADHD Therapy Process

ADHD Isn’t a Character Flaw.

The symptoms of ADHD are not personality defects. But when you’ve lived with constant shame, disorganization, overwhelm, and rejection, it’s easy to start believing they are.

In ADHD therapy, we untangle your identity from your symptoms. We make sense of the chaos. We build strategies that support you, not shame you into being someone else.

ADHD impacts everything, so therapy has to be holistic. Here’s what our work will include:

  • We begin by making sense of your story. You’ll learn what ADHD actually is, how it affects you, and how to separate your symptoms from your sense of self.

  • We work on strategies to help you stay calm when things go sideways, improve communication, and strengthen your connections.

  • Together we’ll find real-world techniques that align with your brain, your needs, and your life, not cookie-cutter solutions.

  • Living with ADHD doesn’t just cause struggle - it can cause trauma. Many of my clients carry painful memories from a lifetime of being misunderstood, rejected, or told they were “too much.”

EMDR helps you process and release that pain.

  • You won’t be left to figure it out alone. We’ll build a structure around your life, whether that means referrals for executive functioning coaching, nutrition support, psychiatry, or work accommodations, and help you keep integrating what you learn.

Let's Talk

What clients report after ADHD therapy:

• Less shame and self-blame

• A stronger understanding of how their brain works

• More consistent emotional regulation

• Self-acceptance without minimizing what’s hard

• Better systems, routines, and outside support

• The ability to tend to themselves with compassion instead of criticism

ADHD doesn’t go away, but life gets better when you stop fighting your brain and start working with it.

Madison Liddle, LMHC New York Therapist

About Me: Madison Liddle, LMHC

New York Therapist

I’m a therapist with ADHD who helps adults with ADHD build lives that actually make sense for them.

I bring both clinical expertise and lived experience to every session, and I treat ADHD as the full-life experience it is, not just a set of symptoms.

There’s something about working with me that gives people permission to be exactly who they are. I believe in joy as a spiritual practice and I’m not afraid to bring joy, humor, and realness into the room. We’ll do the hard stuff, but it doesn’t always have to feel heavy.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have known for years, we’ll work together to reduce shame, untangle old patterns, and find tools that actually work for your brain. My style is collaborative, validating and deeply human. Expect honesty. Expect care. Expect to feel more like yourself again.
